A Death in the City: In the Wake of Segregation
A showing of a film by filmmaker Marquette Williams documenting the 1960s fight to desegregate Cleveland’s schools, featuring scenes from the stage play “A Death in the City” by Faye Sholiton.
The event will include time for small group dialogue and engagement with individuals associated with the making of the film.

Celebrating the contributions of Black women across Cleveland’s educational history—including educators, administrators, activists, organizers, and mothers like Hazel Walker Mountain, Mildred Madison, Sammie Campbell Parrish, Mary B. Martin, Ruth Turner, Clara Smith, and Daisy Craggett.

A Teen Rally designed for Cleveland scholars in grades 8–12. Together, we’ll explore the fight for educational equity, celebrate the leaders who paved the way for justice, and ask what it means for today’s generation to carry the torch forward. Expect music, energy, and inspiration as students from across the city come together on coordinated school field trips.
This youth-focused event is by invitation only, with area schools invited to attend through scheduled field trips during school hours.
